PSE&G Uses Directional Drilling to Install New 12-Inch Gas Pipe Under the Rancocas Creek

Installation will upgrade gas facilities in Riverside and Delanco Township

(November 11, 2011 - Newark, NJ) - Public Service Electric & Gas Company  (PSE&G) is  using a directional drill to replace 850 feet of gas piping, installed in the early 1900s, with a new 12-inch steel gas pipe that will run under the Rancocas Creek from Riverside to Delanco. The new gas main will be installed 25 feet below the river bed of the creek.

The installation is the last portion of a two-year replacement main project to upgrade gas facilities and ensure safe, reliable utility service. The completed project runs from Palmyra through Riverton, Cinnaminson, Riverside, Delanco, Beverly and into Burlington Township.

This section of the construction will begin on N. Pavilion Avenue in Riverside and end on Buttonwood Street in Delanco.  The gas main will parallel the bridge.

The work began November 1 on the Riverside side of the project.  The job is expected to take about a month to complete. Work will be done between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

From time to time, there will be minor detours around the work site when some roads are closed to through traffic. At some point customers on Buttonwood Street in Delanco will not have access to their driveways and parking will be restricted. Interruptions will be kept to a minimum, and PSE&G regrets any inconvenience the project may cause.

For everyone’s safety, PSE&G crews use work area protection. Traffic cones and utility work signs will allow the job to be done safely. The utility reminds motorists to slow down when driving through the area.
