1. Can I save money using natural gas to heat my home?

Yes, you can lower your heating bill by making the switch. The actual amount of your savings will vary upon the efficiency rating of your new natural gas equipment and market forces that drive the price of heating fuel.

For example, heating a typical 2,000 square foot home with natural gas heat can save up to $2,000 annually when compared to heating with oil.  Please click on the Gas Savings Calculator to estimate your individual savings. Plus, there are New Jersey Clean Energy Program rebates available for the installation of high efficiency heating equipment. Combination rebates are available when installing a qualifying gas furnace or boiler with a qualifying water heater (two separate units).

3. How much will it cost to have natural gas installed?

Depending upon the distance of the available gas main to your home, PSE&G may be able to provide a gas line to your home without any additional cost beyond the fee for local road opening permits. However, in some cases there may be a portion of the cost you will have to pay before the gas line can be extended to your home.

Please contact our Energy Solutions Specialist at 1-800-211-4890 or email at switchtogas@pseg.com with your name, address, and telephone contact and will contact you to obtain the details to help complete your request for an estimate.

5. Are permits required before the conversion work begins?

If any work needs to be done to bring a new gas service line to your home or to reinforce the existing service line, local road opening permits may be necessary. You will be informed of the expense and PSE&G will make the permit application to the local authority. For any work done inside your home, your town will require construction permits. The licensed plumber or contractor you have selected to do the work can help obtain these permits for you.

6. How long will it take to get my natural gas service installed?

If there is a gas main adjacent to your property, the installation of a new gas service line could take between four to six weeks. The length of time varies, depending on permit approval from the town, county, or state agencies.

7. Will my property be disturbed with the installation of my natural gas service?

While the installation of natural gas service to your home will require some digging, our crews will do their best to keep disruption of your property to a minimum. Please be mindful that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to mark the location of all private underground facilities such as sprinklers, septic and oil tanks, and other underground facilities you own and/or maintain, before natural gas service is installed. PSE&G will fully restore all required excavations.
