PSEG Power Connecticut is committed to providing Connecticut with reliable and environmentally responsible energy.

PSEG Power Connecticut has announced that its bid to build a new gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Bridgeport, CT, has cleared in the ISO-New England Forward Capacity Auction. We expect to begin construction of the clean, natural gas-fired plant in 2017. The plant, which represents an investment of more than $550 million, is targeted to be completed and supplying needed energy to the Connecticut region for the year beginning June 2019. The plant will be located at PSEG Power Connecticut’s existing Bridgeport Harbor Station site.

The plant will create 350 construction jobs and approximately 20 permanent jobs, add tax revenue to the City of Bridgeport, as well as other economic benefits.

Project Overview

PSEG owns and operates three combined-cycle plants similar to the new project in Bridgeport, and has two others currently under construction in Maryland and New Jersey. With the addition of the three projects under construction, our combined-cycle gas turbine fleet will grow to approximately 5,000 MWs of generating capacity.

The proposed project will add 485 megawatts of highly efficient generating capacity to Connecticut’s southwestern region to ensure electric system reliability.

The plant primarily will run on natural gas, but also will be able to run on ultra-low sulfur distillate (ULSD) as a back-up fuel, ensuring fuel diversity and exceptional dependability.

The proposed unit will be equipped with state-of-the-art emissions control technology and meet all applicable federal and state emissions regulations.

The new plant will represent close to a $550-million investment in the local and regional economy that will provide the City of Bridgeport with significant new tax revenue and other economic benefits.
