PSEG We make things work for you

In order to receive a permit from your municipality to demolish a building, you'll need a letter from PSE&G indicating that the electric and gas has been removed.

While it may take up to 8 weeks for PSE&G to complete the request, there are a number of things that you can consider at the start, which can help speed things along:

  • The property must be vacant.
  • The applicant must be the owner.
  • If the application does not list a municipality as the owner, proof of ownership is required. That can be a deed, a tax bill or signed closing papers. The name that is provided on the proof of ownership must match the name on the application.
  • The application must include the service address, which is often different from the mailing address. The service address can be found on the utility bill.
  • In addition to the owner, you may provide a Project Contact. This is the owner’s authorized agent and is the person that PSE&G will contact for property access. It’s important that this person can be reached during business hours and can provide access to the premises.
  • Meter numbers are required for all that need to be removed. You can find these on the utility bill as well as on the meter.
  • The use of the new building being planned may affect the way services are removed for demolition. Please indicate whether a home will be built, a store, business, apartments, etc.
  • The mailing address is the location to which the completion letter will be mailed. We’re also happy to send the letter via email, so please provide that - it will allow you to have it a day or two earlier.

Note that the time it takes to complete the request can vary depending on work load and weather, and the need for road opening permits, engineering work and the need to remove wires, poles, and lighting. And,  safety is always our priority.

Questions may be directed to representatives by calling 1-800-817-3366 weekdays between 8:00 am and 2:30 pm.
