Avoiding Estimated Bills
If the meter in your home is not read, you will receive an estimated bill based on prior usage, weather and other factors. You’ll see the word "estimated" printed next to the meter reading on your bill. While an estimated bill does not measure actual usage, the bill will be adjusted accordingly after the next actual meter reading.
Record-A-Reading
For your convenience, you can also submit your meter reading by phone by calling PSE&G's dedicated, 'Record-a-Meter' reporting system at 1-800-622-0197. When you call, state your name, account number and meter readings. On the next bill you receive it will state "cust read" next to the meter reading figure.
PSE&G offers meters that do not require us to come inside your home for a reading. PSE&G can install an electronic remote transmitter (or ERT) with no wiring, that can be read from outside. For information, please call PSE&G Customer Service at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
Leave your house key with a neighbor who will be available to let the meter reader in to read your meters. Or, leave your key with PSE&G. It will remain specially coded for security and will be used only for meter reading purposes.
