| How To Shop |
| Now it's easier than ever to shop for and switch energy suppliers. Here are five simple steps to make shopping easier: |
| 1. Gather Information |
| You can obtain an electric or natural gas enrollment kit by calling PSE&G at 800-706-PSEG (7734). An electric and/or gas enrollment package contains a cover letter, third party supplier list, Q&A about the NJ Energy Choice Program and 12 months of recent usage history. |
| 2. Compare Prices |
| Your PSE&G bill provides valuable information that can help you compare offers from third party suppliers. The "price to compare" is a tool that residential consumers can use to calculate savings and comparison shop. In addition, the suppliers are required to include in their marketing materials the average price per therm or kilowatt-hour that they intend to offer residential customers. |
| 3. Consider Environmental Factors |
| Just as food manufacturers must provide a nutritional label on their packaged foods, each electric supplier must provide a label explaining the environmental characteristics of the electricity they sell. As an example, take a look at PSE&G's environmental label. |
| 4. Choose the Supplier That Works Best For You |
| You'll need to evaluate offers from various electricity and natural gas suppliers, which are likely to be presented to you in the form of a contract. Before choosing a new supplier, carefully review the terms and conditions of the contract and ask the following questions. |
- What is the length of the contract?
- What are the contract cancellation provisions?
- Will the price stay the same for the life of the contract?
- Are there restrictions on how much electricity or gas I can use, and when I can use it?
- Will there be any other charges on my bill?
