About Energy Choice
Making Energy Choice Work For New Jersey
Thanks to an innovative and comprehensive initiative from the state of New Jersey, you are now able to choose who you buy energy from. Whether you decide to switch energy suppliers or elect to remain with your current energy company, you will continue to have access to safe and reliable energy. Customers who choose not to shop for power will continue to purchase their electric commodity from PSE&G under regulated basic generation service. Similarly, customers who choose not to shop for natural gas will purchase their natural gas commodity from PSE&G under regulated basic gas supply service. This "safety net" is essential to protect the reliability of service to consumers, as well as protecting consumers if a third party supplier defaults or fails to provide electricity.

In addition, PSE&G will continue to be responsible for maintaining the existing network of wires, pipes and poles that make up the delivery system, which will serve all consumers, regardless of whom they choose to purchase their electricity or natural gas from.

This portion of our website is designed to help you understand many of the issues and terms concerning energy restructuring in New Jersey. We hope this information will assist you in making the best energy choice for you, your family or your business.

Frequently Asked Questions
Consumer Protections
There are a number of strong consumer protections built into New Jersey energy restructuring. Under the state's new Energy Competition Law, before you can be switched to another supplier, a supplier must obtain your permission. If you are switched from one supplier to another without your authorization, you may have been "slammed." For your protection, there are severe penalties against any company engaging in slamming. If you feel you have been slammed or have questions about a supplier's license, call the Board of Public Utilities at 1-800-624-0241.
