About
Leadership in Electric Generation, Wholesale Energy Sales, and Energy Trading
PSEG Power is one of the largest independent electric generating and energy trading companies in the world and brings to the emerging competitive marketplace a strong heritage of achievement and a tradition of leadership in technology, environmental responsibility, and marketplace expertise.

PSEG Power was created in June, 1999 as a result of electric industry restructuring in New Jersey and quickly established itself as a major player in the wholesale energy and energy trading business in the eastern half of the United States. The company makes and markets electricity and engages in commodity energy trading. It is strategically headquartered within the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, one of the nation's largest and most important energy markets, and is engaged in development projects that are extending the PSEG Power brand into New York and the Midwest. PSEG Power brings to these region's wholesale energy markets an electric generation portfolio diversified by fuel source and market segment, demonstrated expertise in natural gas procurement, and an energy trading operation designed to maximize the value of these assets and abilities.

The company started operation with an electric generation portfolio that included more than 10,200 megawatts of nuclear and fossil capacity being acquired from its utility affiliate, Public Service Electric and Gas Company, and it has moved quickly to implement an aggressive growth strategy. PSEG Power's current portfolio of development projects will deliver capacity additions in PJM, The Northeast, and Midwest markets. They include:

  • 1,200 MW (natural gas-fired combined cycle) onsite of the existing Linden Generating Station (Ridgefield, NJ)
  • 750 MW Bethlehem Energy Center (natural gas-fired, combined cycle) onsite of the existing Albany Steam Station (Bethlehem, NY)

PSEG Power LLC is structured to maximize the skills, experience, and dedication of its workforce and to focus these talents on the marketplace. The company has three primary subsidiaries:

PSEG Power, in addition to operating on the cutting edge of competition, is in the vanguard of environmental leadership in the electric power industry and is the primary industry advocate for incorporating important environmental safeguards into national electric industry restructuring policy, including uniform, more stringent power plant emissions standards for nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and mercury.
