In early 2001, Turboven, a joint venture of PSEG Global and Corporation Industrial de Energia of Venezuela, commenced commercial operation of two 60 megawatt electric generation plants and an independent distribution network in northern Venezuela. The projects, located approximately 100 kilometers west of Caracas, are part of the Venezuelan Independent System project designed to bring reliable and affordable electrical energy to the industrial areas of Maracay and Cagua.
Both the Maracay and Cagua plants run on natural gas, taking advantage of Venezuela’s large gas reserves. Each plant is connected to an independent distribution system, consisting of approximately 13 kilometers for Maracay and 11 kilometers for Cagua, that delivers safe and reliable energy to its customers.
