| Guadalupe Power Plant - Texas, USA |
| In January 2001, PSEG Texas (formerly Texas Independent Energy), the 1,000 megawatt Guadalupe electric generation plant located 48 kilometers northeast of San Antonio in Guadalupe County, Texas, started commercial operation. The plant was constructed in less than 18 months, and provides customers with safe, reliable, cost-effective and fuel efficient energy produced using environmentally friendly gas turbines. In July, 2004, PSEG Global acquired the remaining 50% of the plant. |
Guadalupe is a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant that uses state-of-the-art technology. The plant’s advanced technology ensures maximum efficiency, requiring one-third less fuel and water for operation than conventional power plants. In addition, Guadalupe is one of the environmentally cleanest power plants in Texas, and is significantly cleaner than 90 percent of existing plants in the state.
Guadalupe sells its energy into the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid. The plant’s electric output is sold both by term contracts and on the spot market.
In August 2001, PSEG Texas commenced commercial operation of another 1,000 megawatt power plant in Ector County, Texas (Refer to separate profile for details on Odessa).
