| New Haven Harbor Generating Station is located on Long Island Sound on the east shore of New Haven Harbor, CT. The station consists of one unit, a 448 MW oil-fired plant that also has the capability to burn natural gas at up to 40% of capacity. It was originally built in 1975 and upgraded with the addition of the natural gas fuel capability in the 1980s. |
The plant is one of the most efficient oil-fueled generators in the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), an integrated market that serves more than 6.5 million retail customers in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
The facility can operate with No. 6 oil or a blend of No. 6 oil and natural gas. It has one of the lowest heat rates for intermediate oil/gas steam plants in New England.
PSEG Power’s purchase of New Haven Harbor Generating Station together with the nearby Bridgeport Harbor plant adds a total of 961 MW of primarily coal-and-oil-fired electric generating capacity to PSEG Power’s fleet.

PSEG Power Connecticut is proposing to build and operate an electric generating peaking facility at its New Haven Harbor station, located at 1 Waterfront Street in New Haven, Connecticut.
