The Edison Generating Station is suitably located in Edison, NJ, a community named after the father of modern electricity and home to his Menlo Park laboratory. The 504 MW station consists of three 168 MW single-cycle, gas–fired turbines installed in 1971.
The Edison units are peaking units, meaning that they run only during periods of high electric demand. The units can run on kerosene during the winter months when the use of natural gas for the home heating market restricts the supply for power plants.
The station uses a high pressure, water injection system to lower NOx emissions.
